GENERAL INFORMATION
Set at the deepest point of the gulf of Fethiye, Gocek nestles at the foot of the pine clad mountains looking out over the '12 islands' of the bay. With a large natural harbour Gocek has grown up to cater to the needs of yachtmen. Gocek is placed in the west side of Fethiye Gulf and it is surrounded by the bays and islands as forming an internal sea.

The length of the gulf is not much longer than 8-9 miles with one end as Gocek region and the other end is Hamam Bay. And its width is between 1 and 2 miles.The gulf is surrounded by the mountains and pine forests keeping on till the sea. One of the pleasures of a visit here is a stroll around the Marina to admire the array of boats of all shapes and sizes moored here. The waterfront is lined with bars and restaurants. Inland life revolves around the pretty market square which is lined with little shops selling antiques and crafts as well as the more usual carpets.

In the daytime it is possible to swim from the small town beach, but you will probably prefer to take a trip to one of the beaches in the local nature reserves or a boat to one of the lovely islands in the bay. Thought this area is called the 12 islands, there are, in fact, far more than that and you could easily explore a different one each day of your holiday. On some you will find a simple restaurant, on others fragments of classical or Byzantine ruins, on others nothing but glorious peace and quiet. GOCEK has long been a desirable destination for both Turkish and foreign yachtsmen, as well as a favorite stopover for jet-setters and celebrities alike. This paradisical village of two-thousand inhabitants is only 20 minutes by car from Dalaman International Airport.

It is not only world-class yachting that makes Gocek a special place; it is also the way the culture and natural surroundings blend in such a serene way. Strict development laws ensure that this very unique setting is protected; and since there is no oversupply of hotels, it is never crowded; majority of visitors are usually sophisticated travellers like yourself. Since 1988 Gocek Gulf is under the scope of "Private Environment Protection" and therefore constucting is forbidden... Yet, it is still possible to stay

at internationally renowned boutique hotels, swim at private beaches or in one of the dozens of heavenly bays of Gocek, dine at gourmet restaurants, or enjoy a day of sailing in the blue & green fjords of the Mediterranean.

History of Gocek

The town of Gocek is relatively new in terms of settlement and the development of the area is mostly happened after the tourism investments took place at 1980s. The interest of Turgut Ozal, 8th president of Turkish Republic, made the region famous. However, if you are interested in historical sites the Carian city of Caunos Lycian cities of Letoon, Patara and Xanthos are at a distance of a daily excursion. An overnight trip to Ephesus and Pamukkale is also possible.
